At present, this Broadsides Collection database contains information and images for approximately 1,400 broadsides, broadsheets, circulars (of 1 to 4 pages) and printed forms.
Its strength is 19th century American materials, drawn from such manuscript collections in the Department as the
William Henry Seward Papers, the
Thurlow Weed Papers, and the
Amy and Isaac Post Family Papers. This database grows as more material is added to it.
The following information has been entered for each item. Any word in these fields can be
searched:
- Title/First line(s)
- Date
- City
- State
- Collection
- One or more broad subject headings
Although the items in this database have been digitized, their printed text is not yet searchable.
The database does not contain the
Poetry Broadside Collection, which has its own database; nor does it contain similar University of Rochester materials. These materials, 1851 to date, are filed year-by-year in the Department and the University Archivist would be glad to help you with any questions regarding them.
