University Open House
Don W. Lyon joined the University's Communications staff in 1952. Lyon brought the University's people and research to the community via radio and television. This edition of the biweekly program "University Open House," featured Edward Gibson '59, a member of the Skylab 3 crew, who had just returned from 84 days orbiting the earth. At the time, it set the record for the longest mission in space. Rochester was the first stop for Gibson after his return from space, and got a hero's welcome from the University.
Gibson's descriptions of the mission and its findings give insight into how far our space program, and its benefits for science and exploration, has come, and how far it still has to go.
