Notes | (Early predecessors of a general hospital were the pesthouse (first one in Rochester in 1823) and the almshouse or poorhouse (first one in Rochester in 1826). Rochester City Hospital, renamed Rochester General Hospital in 1911, was chartered in 1847 and finally opened in 1864; meanwhile St. Mary's Hospital had opened in 1857.
