Notes (The standard biography, carefully researched and well written from all available manuscript sources. Williamson was agent for Sir William Pulteney and others of England; most of their lands were in Steuben and Allegany Counties, but they also included the sites of Geneva, Sodus, and Williamsburgh, which Williamson did his best to develop. Cowan puts Williamson's activities into the context of the British-American diplomacy of the 1790's and is less interested in actual progress of settlement in the Genesee Country.)
