Biographical/Historical Note
The annual Writers Workshops were held by the University of Rochester from 1970 to 1988. Over the course of several days distinguished poets, writers, editors, and publishers would hold classes, talks, and panels on the writing of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. Notable guests over the years included Joel Agee, Earle Birney, Malcolm Cowley, George P. Elliott, Linda, Gregg, Dolores Kendrick, D. Keith Mano, Charles Monaghan, Lynne Sharon Schwartz, Mary Lee Settle, William E. Stafford, Matthew Stevenson, and Helen Yglesias.

Scope and Content
The Writers Workshop Collection consists of primarily of photographs taken by James S. Peck. Mr. Peck was formerly the Director of Public Relations for the Graduate School of Management (today the Simon Graduate School of Business). He had also handled public relations and promotional activities for Dean Robert Koch of the University School, which included both the Writers Workshop and the University Summer Theater. The collection also contains the annual flyers or programs for most of the years of the series.
