Biographical/Historical Note
"Amontillado's Arcanum" is a fictional story set at the Institute of Optics. At the time the story was written, in 1945, the Institute was located on the fourth floor of Bausch & Lomb Hall, and it was heavily involved in research projects related to World War II. Although the script was written under the pseudonym SPUD, the author was later revealed to be Benjamin Metelsky, a physicist working on National Defense Research Committee projects at the Institute during the war. The plot revolves around an undercover agent working against enemy spies who are trying to steal classified information from the Institute. It includes characters with names of Institute faculty such as Director Brian O'Brien.
