Most letters pertain to vacancies or the possibility of vacancies in the department and cover topics such as credentials, recommendations, interviews, and salaries for teaching positions. The collection also includes recommendation letters and application materials. Some applicants enclosed a photograph along with their application.

Originally in reverse chronological order, materials in this collection were placed into chronological order.
