Biographical/Historical Note
John Burdett Easton was born in 1841 and served during the Civil War in 1862 with the 101st New York Regiment and from 1864- 1865 with the New Jersey Cavalery, M Company, 1st Regiment. After completing his service, Easton settled in Saratoga County, New York and in 1868 he married Marion C. Bailey. In 1875, Easton purchased a farm in Saratoga Springs. However, he filed a Declaration for an Invalid Pension in 1891 and after being granted his pension he moved to Glens Falls, New York. In 1902, Easton become a letter carrier and continued in that position until his death in 1907.

Scope and Content
The John Burdett Easton Papers are comprised of one series: Correspondence. The correspondence dates from 1862- 1865, during which time Easton wrote regularly to his mother about his experiences fighting for the Union during the Civil War.
