The family includes several University of Rochester alumni: William Theodore Mills (UR1872), another William Theodore Mills (UR1900), and Buell Paine Mills (UR1898), father of Allen Paine Mills.

Scope and Contents

The Paine-Mills Family Papers is a small collection relating to the history of two Rochester-area families over a 100-year period. The main piece is a small booklet by Paul M. Paine, published in 1896 for the Historical Society of Athens, NY, called "The Paines of Athens. Their Ancestors and Descendants," along with the notes compiled for this document.

The Paine-Mills Family Papers is open for research use. Researchers are advised to contact the Rare Books, Special Collections & Preservation Department prior to visiting. Upon arrival, researchers will also be asked to fill out a registration form and provide photo identification.
