Rochester Preservation Board papers
Biographical / Historical note
The Rochester Preservation Board reviews proposals for all non-maintenance exterior work on city landmarks or to properties located within preservation districts, granting certificates of appropriateness to those projects deemed acceptable. The board consists of nine city residents (including at least one registered architect, at least four residents of city preservation districts, one member of the Greater Rochester Association of Realtors, Inc. and one member of the Landmark Society) appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the city council who volunteer their time to protect the integrity of historic neighborhoods.
Scope and Contents
The papers of the Rochester Preservation Board consist mainly of agendas, minutes and staff reports compiled from meetings of the board between 1972 and 2001, along with applications for designation of historic districts and landmark status. The papers provide detailed information on buildings located within Rochester's Preservation Districts, including sketches of proposed alterations to properties reviewed by the board.
