Biographical/Historical Note
Charles Amos Hamilton graduated from the University of Rochester in 1889, and received his masters degree from the University in 1892. From 1889 to 1907 he was a teacher and principal at the Albion High School and from 1997 to 1907 he was the principal of the Union school in Newark. In 1907 he became the superintendent of the New York State School for the Blind in Batavia, He held this position until his retirement in 1937. Mr. Hamilton died in 1943.

Scope and Content
Mr. Hamilton's diaries cover a sixty-six year period, 1879-1943. The diaries reveal many interesting incidents from his personal life, the School for the Blind, local, national and world events. The diaries for the years 1885 to 1889 give a vivid picture of Hamilton's experiences as an undergraduate at the University of Rochester.
