Biographical/Historical Note
John Warrant Castleman was born in Rochester in 1868. He graduated from the University of Rochester in 1889. He practiced law, and in 1908 was elected a member of the Board of Education. In 1914 he became president of this Board, and served until 1919 when he was appointed Special County Judge to fill an unexpired term. At the next election he was voted Special County Judge, but died in Rochester on January 1, 1920 before taking office.

Scope and Content
The papers consist of biographical material on Judge Castleman and tributes written about him after his death.
