Charles Albert Brown papers
Biographical/Historical note
Charles Albert Brown received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Rochester in 1879, and a Master of Arts degree in 1889. He was a bookkeeper, cashier, and later manager of the Western Electric Company in Chicago until he began a law practice in 1891. In 1924 he was made a trustee of the University of Rochester. Mr. Brown took great interest in the University Library, and contributed money, an extensive autograph collection, and many rare books. In 1930, along with Francis E. Welles, Class of 1875, he gave the Welles-Brown Room in Rush Rhees Library.

The papers consist of five folders, containing primarily materials related to literary manuscripts written by Charles Albert Brown.

The Charles Albert Brown Papers is open for research use. Researchers are advised to contact the Rare Books Special Collections & Preservation Department prior to visiting. Upon arrival, researchers will also be asked to fill out a registration form and provide photo identification.
Use
In consultation with a curator, reproductions may be made upon request. Permission to publish materials from the collection must be requested from a curator. Researchers are responsible for determining any copyright questions.
