In 1802 Silas Curtis(s) (1776-1845) married Avis (sometimes spelled "Avice") Newton Shelton (1779-1858). The papers in this collection relate to their six daughters (one son died at age 23).

Scope and Contents
The collection includes letters from Abigail Curtis Marks of Lockport to Silas Curtis of Stratford, Connecticut; family photographs; genealogical data on Shelton family of Connecticut; autograph album; and journal of a Lockport flour mill, used as a scrapbook.

The Curtis Family Papers is open for research use. Researchers are advised to contact the Rare Books Special Collections & Preservation Department prior to visiting. Upon arrival, researchers will also be asked to fill out a registration form and provide photo identification.
