 Collection
Identifier: D.448

Biographical / Historical note

Twelve female University of Rochester graduates organized the Saturday Club in 1939. Their members have included Mrs. Guy Harris, Mrs. Caro FitzSimon Spencer, Marion Craig Steinmen, Helen Craig Suttee and Gladys Hammond. In the 1950s, the women met each month at a member's home to discuss a different book. The books ranged from 'The Cruel Sea' to 'Return to Paradise.' The Club ceased its activities in the late 1960s or 1970s.

Scope and Contents

The Saturday Club Collection chronicles the club's activities from 1952-1966. Two series comprise this collection: Meeting Minutes and Club Materials. Meeting Minutes document who the members of the Club were and the books they read. The second series includes several letters written between members, a club history, a member's obituary and two manuscript fragments.
