Biographical/Historical note

Robert L. Sproull was officially inaugurated on February 1, 1975 as the seventh president of the University of Rochester. The ceremony featured a concert directed by Dr. Howard Hanson and the conferring of honorary degrees upon Robert W. Lyman, Ernest L. Boyer, Harold Brown, and Dale R. Corson. President's Medals were awarded to George H. Whipple, Howard Hanson, and Dexter Perkins. The festivities also included a reception in the Field House and luncheon in the Palestra; a special Inaugural Seminar entitled "What the University's Trustees Should Know About the Future"; and dinner in the Susan B. Anthony Halls.

Sproull had previously served as president and chief executive officer under his predecessor, Chancellor W. Allen Wallis.
