DOYLE, Richard Sketch book, 1840 These delightful pen-and-ink drawings are the work of Richard Doyle (1824-1883), who began his career as a caricaturist for the British humor magazine Punch. After leaving Punch in 1850 he illustrated books by Thackeray, Ruskin, Leigh Hunt, and other notable British authors. His nephew, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, created the famous detective Sherlock Holmes. |
