Biographical/Historical note
Laurence Bradford Packard graduated from Harvard University in 1909 and received a Ph.D. degree from there in 1921. In 1913, he came to the University of Rochester as an instructor of history. In 1915, he became an assistant professor, and from 1920 to 1925, served as head of the history department. In 1926, he left Rochester to become a professor of history at Amherst College. He remained there until his death in 1955.
