19th Ward Community Association of Rochester papers
Biographical / Historical
The 19th Ward Community Association papers were donated in 2001 by the 19th Ward Community Association of Rochester New York (19WCA). The collection includes items from the first 34 years of the Association—from its inception in 1965 through 1998. In 1965, a group of 19th Ward residents came together to establish the 19WCA in an effort to oppose redlining, a policy resulting in segregated neighborhoods, and to fight for policies that promoted a prosperous, integrated urban community. In recognition of the Association’s 50th anniversary in 2015, the organization was honored by the Landmark Society of Western New York with a Special Citation Award.
