Mary Moulthrop collection of genealogical data for Monroe County and adjacent areas
Biographical / Historical note
Mary Adaline Moulthrop (1886-1971) was a lifelong genealogist and the daughter of progressive Rochester principal and educator "Colonel" Samuel Parker Moulthrop, who long headed School No. 26. She graduated from the University of Rochester Class of 1909 as an undergraduate, then pursued a Masters' at UR as Class of 1911. Little direct information about her life survives.
Mryte Rice Haynes (1867-1957) was head of the committee for genealogical records for the Irondequoit Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, which compiled transcripts of grave markers in many early cemeteries in Western New York and created an index of the 1850 Monroe County Census for the Rochester Public Library. Haynes was also an active member of the Genealogy Round-Table of Rochester and the Rochester Historical Society, and was interested in the lives of early immigrant settlers to Rochester. Haynes held a doctorate from Allegheny University. More of her papers and personal genealogy notes are held by the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections at Cornell.
