Adam Gerard Mappa papers
Biographical/Historical note
Adam Gerard Mappa (possibly born in Doornik (Tournai), Province of Hainaut, Belgium, November 25, 1754; died Trenton, New York, April 15, 1828) came to the United States in 1789 and, after an unsuccessful attempt as a typefounder in New York City, became a land agent for the Holland Land Company, settling in Oldenbarneveldt (now Trenton), New York. His home, built about 1810, still stands in the village.

The Mappa Papers include 47 letters, 1778-1833 and undated, the majority being for the period 1789-1795. Almost all are in Dutch, with the rest in French.
