Lowe family papers
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of genealogical data and letters, accompanied by transcripts, which relate to the Lowe and Smith families of western New York and to family life in the early 1800s. The material has been gathered by Jesse Lowe Smith (1869-1934), Superintendent of Schools in Highland Park, IL, and in the 1960s by Blanche Beal Lowe, whose husband, Harvey J. Lowe, was Jesse Smith's cousin.

The Lowe Family Papers is open for research use. Researchers are advised to contact the Rare Books, Special Collections & Preservation Department prior to visiting. Upon arrival, researchers will also be asked to fill out a registration form and provide photo identification.
Use
In consultation with a curator, reproductions may be made upon request. Permission to publish materials from the collection must be requested from a curator. Researchers are responsible for determining any copyright questions.

Gift of Mrs. Harvey J. Lowe, Newark, Ohio, August 29, 1966. Addition of correspondence, 1930s and 1960s relating to Lowe Family genealogy given by Mrs. Lowe, October 1972.
