Shutt family papers
Biographical / Historical note
The Shutt Family lived in the Rochester, New York area. Erwin Reed Shutt was born on June 19, 1891. He graduated from the University of Rochester in 1913 and then attended Columbia Law School. After passing the bar, Shutt joined his family's law firm: Reed, Shutt, Downs and Shutt. During World War I, Shutt served as part of the East Army Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) Headquarters in New York City. After the war, Shutt continued to practice law and was a member of the local, state and ntional bar associations. He served as the President of the Rochester YMCA, and as a trustee of Beaver College. In 1918, Shutt married Elsie Post and they eventually had one daughter, Mary Jane. Erwin Reed Shutt died in March, 1974.
Scope and Contents
The Shutt Family Papers consists of one folder with deed and other land papers of the George C. Maurer and family of Rochester, as well as one photograph album of the Shutt family.

The Shutt Family Papers is open for research use. Researchers are advised to contact the Rare Books, Special Collections & Preservation Department prior to visiting. Upon arrival, researchers will also be asked to fill out a registration form and provide photo identification.
Use
In consultation with a curator, reproductions may be made upon request. Permission to publish materials from the collection must be requested from a curator. Researchers are responsible for determining any copyright questions.
