Biographical/Historical note

Gordon Brule, Jr. was born in Hawaii during his father's service in the Air Force.

Gordon graduated from Irondequiot High School in 1966. After enlisting in the Marine Corps that October, he went to Parris Island, South Carolina for training and then on to Camp Pendleton, California. Before arriving in Vietnam, he also stopped in Okinawa for a few days.

The Marine Corps notified his family that 19-year old Pfc. Brule was killed by gunfire in Gio Linh on Sunday, September 24, 1967, three days after arriving in Vietnam. He was survived by his parents, 11-year old brother Robert, and 21-year old sister Anlee and her husband William Forward who served on the U.S.S. Forrestal.

Newspaper clippings noted that Gordon was named godfather to Anlee and William's child born on September 2nd, shortly after Gordon left from his 20-day leave that summer.
