Biographical/Historical note

Isaac Edmund Howd was born in Little Falls, New York on October 23, 1824. In 1851, Howd married Harriet Emily Fuller in Penfield, New York. Beginning in the 1850s through the 1870s, Howd served several local churches as a pastor including: Somerset Baptist Church, West Henrietta Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Whitehall, New York. Howd and his wife raised four children together: Mary Eva, Leroy Bronson, Fay Fuller and Isaac Edmund Jr. Howd retired from the clergy in 1880. After retiring, Howd and his wife moved to Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. Isaac Howd died on June 3, 1896.

Scope and Contents

The Isaac Howd Papers consist of one series: Personal Papers. In that series are three handwritten sermons that Howd preached during his career as a pastor. Also included is an 1863 published sermon titled, "God in Providence." There are family photographic reproductions created by Howd descendent, Judith Hill (Fielder) Harris in the 1980s. Harris also compiled genealogical information on her family and that is included.

The Isaac Howd Papers is open for research use. Researchers are advised to contact the Rare Collections & Preservation Department prior to visiting. Upon arrival, researchers will also be asked to fill out a registration form and provide photo identification.

In consultation with a curator, reproductions may be made upon request. Permission to publish materials from the collection must be requested from a curator. Researchers are responsible for determining any copyright questions.
