In the spring or summer of 1862, the fledgling University purchased the Great Cabinets of Geology and Mineralogy containing the collections of Henry A. Ward, Professor of the Natural Sciences.

This small collection consists of two handwritten "schedules" detailing the contents of the Cabinets.

Immediate Source of Acquisition note

The schedules were donated in September 1983 by Mrs. J. Edward Hoffmeister (wife of Professor Hoffmeister) as part of a group of Professor LeRoy Fairchild's correspondence and miscellaneous notes.

A notebook detailing payments made toward the purchase was added in October 2011.
