Biographical / Historical note

Kathryn Miller was born December 5, 1906 to Mortimer H. Miller, son of John and Katherine Miller, and Gertrude Bancroft Miller, daughter of Fred and Flora Bancroft, of 306 Garson Avenue, Rochester, NY. Kathryn is descended from Matthew Dryer, one of the founding settlers of Brighton, on her mother's side. Her mother, a member of the Class of 1905, was one of the earliest female graduates of the University of Rochester. Kathryn graduated from East High School on January 21, 1925 and enrolled at the University of Rochester, where she became a member of Theta Eta Sorority and President of the Scribbler's Club. She graduated in 1929 with a teaching certification. On June 27, 1936 she married Mark Augustine Kreag, son of George and Ella (Scheck) Kreag of Alliance Avenue in Rochester. Their wedding took place in West Webster, NY at the home of Kathryn's cousins Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Reiber. The Kreags moved to Apartment 7D at 25 25th Avenue, New York City. Mark worked as an accountant with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company while Kathryn was a teacher at Hunter College High School. She received an MA in teaching from Hunter College in 1958. The Kreags moved to Melbourne, Florida in the mid-1960s following Mark's retirement from Metropolitan. Kathryn took a job as Headmistress of Holy Trinity Episcopal School. On December 21, 1972 Mark died in Melbourne and was buried in West Webster Cemetery in New York. Sometime thereafter, Kathryn married a Mr. Palmer originally from Scottsville, NY. Kathryn died January 7, 1992 in Melbourne, Florida and was buried in West Webster Cemetery, Lot 60.
