George Washington Patterson papers
Scope and Contents
Letters addressed to George Washington Patterson on a variety of subjects, with emphasis on local, state and national politics, and business affairs of the Chautauqua Land Office at Westfield. Patterson was agent of the Land Office for many years, also Lieutenant Governor of New York, 1848, and a member of the House of Representatives, 1877-79.

The George Washington Patterson Papers is open for research use. Researchers are advised to contact the Rare Books, Special Collections & Preservation Department prior to visiting. Upon arrival, researchers will also be asked to fill out a registration form and provide photo identification.
Use
In consultation with a curator, reproductions may be made upon request. Permission to publish materials from the collection must be requested from a curator. Researchers are responsible for determining any copyright questions.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Deposited in the University Library, June, 1944, by Mrs. Frank W. Crandall. Additional letters received August, 1945. The collection was made an outright gift to the University Library in 1955, following the death of Mrs. Crandall., by her two sons, Francis Crandall and G. Patterson Crandall.
